Republicans and the budget deficit

Sometimes one might get a bit confused, when thinking about debt and fiscal deficits, because we sometimes do not know, which political camp supports high deficits and which one prefers the opposite.

Here is a nice explanation in Martin Wolf’s column for the US American case:

“it is not deficits themselves that worry Republicans, but rather how they are caused: deficits caused by tax cuts are fine; but spending increases brought in by Democrats are diabolical, unless on the military.”
